Yao Wen, the Ambassador of China to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy visit to Anwar Hossain, the Administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka. The meeting was also attended by BGMEA Support Committee members Miran Ali and Shehab Udduza Chowdhury.
The discussions centered around strengthening the bilateral relationship and exploring new avenues for collaboration between China and Bangladesh, with a particular focus on the apparel and textile industries.
Anwar Hossain provided insights into the robust growth of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector, emphasising priorities such as diversifying into high-value non-cotton garments, promoting environmental sustainability, and advancing technological advancements. He underscored the need for knowledge exchange between textile and fashion institutions in both countries.
Hossain also pointed out the importance of diversifying export products aimed at the Chinese market. He advocated for increased exchanges of business delegations from both nations and encouraged participation in trade exhibitions to enhance bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
In addition to discussing trade and industrial collaborations, Hossain urged Ambassador Yao Wen to offer greater support to Bangladeshi entrepreneurs by sharing market intelligence, thereby facilitating smoother business interactions and trade with China. In response, Ambassador Yao highlighted China’s significant role as a leading supplier of man-made fibre-based fabrics, chemicals, and other essential raw materials that cater to the burgeoning demands of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
