Canada Goose has named Haider Ackermann as its first creative director. Ackermann, a Colombian-born French designer, will be based out of Paris and will work together with President and CEO Dani Reiss to guide the company forward and improve its creative direction. His first collection is scheduled for release in autumn-winter 2024.
Reiss shared, “Haider Ackermann is famous for his ability to mix craftsmanship and aesthetics effortlessly. He recognises the unique identity of Canada Goose, highlighting authenticity, craftsmanship, and performance as our major values.”
The appointment overlaps with the beginning of an exclusive style in support of Polar Bears International (PBI), an organisation committed to studying and conserving polar bears and their habitat. Motivated by a trip to Churchill, Manitoba, with Reiss, the launch underlines their joint commitment to environmental conservation. The campaign has film icon and environmental activist Jane Fonda, stressing the value of collective action in tackling climate change.
Ackermann shared his respect for Canada Goose’s legacy and purpose, stating, “I am drawn to Canada Goose not only for its original role in its category but also for its commitment to its mission. My visit to Churchill kindled a passion to contribute more to environmental causes. I hope that by working together with Jane Fonda, we can enthuse action on climate issues.”
Fonda highlighted the need of collective action, stating, “Working together with Haider and Canada Goose to raise understanding about the Arctic is impactful and vital in addressing the climate crisis.”
In combination with the announcement, a rare edition sweatshirt will be ready for purchase from 15th May in selected shops and on the website to support Polar Bears International. The proceeds from the sweatshirt, (created from organic cotton), will go to PBI in supporting research and conservation efforts in the Arctic.
