The biggest learning that the apparel industry and owners have taken out of COVID-19 is the flexibility and openness to transform their businesses in this digital era.
The same was endorsed by Gunish Jain, CEO, BlueKaktus who was speaking in a session organised at ASW Marketplace on subject – ‘Speed to Market with Technology’ today (17 December).
In the session, Gunish highlighted some of the major bottlenecks in the apparel supply chain (both from retail and manufacturing point of views) and spoke about the technology solutions to eliminate these issues.
One of these issues is high reaction time as more than 30 per cent of the time of a retailer gets wasted in waiting for the next step to take place. Gunish reasoned that the front-end of the fashion industry is digitised (through e-commerce), but the backend still remains analogue.
“Quantifying waiting time and what it costs in terms of lead time is absolutely critical to figuring out how to integrate the supply chain,” asserted Gunish.
Further to this, Gunish also threw light on the desired quality level from vendors; focus areas to improve quality and cost of quality in manufacturing; importance of digitisation in quality processes and significance of lead time reduction.
Since BlueKaktus is a proven software technology which caters to all these above-mentioned areas, the session included the advantages of key features of the software which directly helps factories in improving lead times and productivity of QAs, QCs and merchandisers.
Towards the end of the session, an interactive question-answer discussion kept the audiences sit tight. Gunish concluded by saying that technology and process should be simple to use and that’s the only way to convince the large number of people in the industry to go for it.
