The top management of the Japanese sewing machine pioneers Pegasus and Brother were recently in Jaipur to tap the new found growth of the apparel export hub. Collaborating since 2011’s edition of the Texprocess fair, both the companies have joined forces for operating in the Indian market for 6 months and appointed Unique Engineers as their new business partner and distributor for Rajasthan.
“Exporters in Jaipur cater to the Japan market, which has high quality demands and it becomes all the more necessary for them to upgrade their machines in order to produce the quality garments,” says Takashi Asako, CEO & President, Pegasus Sewing Machine, Singapore. Adding further, Randeep Sahani, General Manager – Industrial Sewing Machine Division, Brother International India states, “Most garment manufacturers here are using single needle lockstitch machines and are not very well aware of the newest technologies available. We are trying to explain them the outstanding improvements in the productivity levels.” The companies claimed that apparel manufacturers in Jaipur are not using the kind of sewing technologies that are used by the other apparel manufacturing hubs like Bangalore, Tirupur, Delhi-NCR and Chennai.

Further strengthening Pegasus’s presence in Jaipur, John Tan Choon Chuan, Executive Vice President, Pegasus Sewing Machine, Singapore asserted, “The time is right for automation as growth is back in the export market and India has created a niche in handling small and medium sized orders, which other apparel manufacturing countries lack.” Seeing the growth, that Jaipur has witnessed in the past 6 months, both the companies have pledged to pool in more resources for enhancing their business in the region. Brother has seen here a good demand for S-7000 DD direct-drive lockstitch sewing machine with reduced power consumption, while Pegasus has witnessed good response for its 4 thread and 5 thread (M-700, M-800, M-900), flat folding CW-500. As Jaipur is also growing in T-shirt manufacturing, manufacturers are now investing in quality and long lasting machines, and Pegasus is gaining due to its quality edge. “Pegasus is top priority for the garment manufacturers who want quality in their knitted products as awareness for quality in Jaipur is continuously increasing, be it in export or domestic,” says Shyam Sunder Shukla of Unique Engineers.
