Up-and-coming Designer, Deborah Lyons, presented her first show off the roads, literally, as it is took place aboard the London to Paris Eurostar on Wednesday afternoon. The new collection was presented during the first part of the train journey.
Lyons launched her label last year with Harrods as its key partner in London. She planned on banking on the free time the captive audience has while travelling from one fashion week to the other.
She further mentioned, “For a small-size brand like mine, showing in London or Paris wouldn’t make much sense. In the nicest possible way, it can be a waste of time and money because the editors are engaged with bigger shows and brands they have commitments to, so you often fall between the cracks. This way, we are not interrupting anything, we’re just becoming a part of the journey.”
Giving tailoring a feminine touch is the signature of the designer as it complements her flair for matching sets. She said this alternative presentation format would also allow her to communicate the spirit of her brand and the type of women she aspires to dress.
“It’s that girl who travels a lot, she does a lot and is always on the move. I’m not saying she’s going to Paris for fashion week necessarily, but she is quite transient, and moves around,” added the designer, who was also the owner of the footwear label Mechanté of London.
The Spring 2019 collection revolved around the idea of transience and featured several athletic elements such as rubberised track pants, fluoro stripes on slim plaid trousers and pleated miniskirts with matching tops that could double as chic tennis outfits. To add whimsy and fun to the collection, she also showcased a range of jumpsuits and mini matching sets slammed with floral prints over them, an assortment of silhouettes with graphic sequined pieces and details such as chain collars or pearl buttons.
Post show, several artisans and musicians entertained the audience that included a niche mix of editors, buyers, and influencers with performances by Palestinian-Israeli singer Lina Makhul and English tea, served by bell boys in customized Lyons outfits.
