Known for discovering ground-breaking fashion talent each season, India’s most sought-after fashion platform, Lakmé Fashion Week, has disclosed its list of selected candidates for its Gen Next category for the upcoming Summer/Resort 2019 edition.

Judged by the prestigious LFW Advisory Board that includes industry stalwarts such as leading designers Anita Dongre and Narendra Kumar; Editor of Grazia India, Mehernaaz Dhondy; Namrata Zakaria – Columnist at Mumbai Mirror; Ashwath Swaminathan – Head of Innovations at Lakmé and Jaspreet Chandok – Vice President and Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance, the 27th batch of Gen Next, consists of four designers.
BIRDWALK by Amrapali Singh, comes from New Delhi with a collection that incorporates the use of patch work and a limited palette to capture the nostalgia and glamour of yesteryear cinema. The collection deploys the use of techniques such as hand and machine embroidery.
EK KATHA by Madhumita Nath works with a neutral palette invoking a bohemian vibe. The designer makes use of her experience at SEWA, where she learnt embroidery techniques practised by the Garasia Jat tribes of Kutch, to create a collection that incorporates hand woven organic short staple indigenous cotton, nassi- silk and silk organza yarn dyed in natural colours and Batik wood block printed with natural dyes.
SUNAINA KHERA’s namesake label has amassed quite a recognition in a short span of time. All of 25 years of ages, Khera’s selected collection uses organza, silk, tulle as well as paisley and hand embroidered sequins in a sparkling white, delicate pink and bold violet colour-ways to depict the stages of the emotion of grief.
UJJWALA BHADU explores the concept of personal and acquired cultures through craft intensive textiles, modern form and color resulting in fun, functional, wearable pieces, through her namesake label. Before launching her label, Ujjwala has interned with Bibhu Mohapatra, Oscar de la Renta, Theory and Philip Lim.
