This was conveyed at the orientation programme conducted recently by Modelama Skills. The event, which was covered by Apparel Resources exclusively, was attended by Mridula Lall, Country Manager Indiska India Export Services Pvt. Ltd.; Harmit S. Bedi, Modelama Exports Ltd.; Krishna Kumar Gaur, Coordinator, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY); Sanjay Arora Sr. Project Manager, Modelama Exports Ltd.; Animesh Saxena, CEO, Neetee Apparel LLP; senior Government of Sikkim officials, senior NSDC officials, students and other industry experts.
The programme is a special pilot initiative of Sikkim Government under which 20 students will be getting a 380-hour theoretical training, followed by 10-12 weeks of practical work.
The move is aimed at aligning north-eastern youth with the mainstream youth of India and also to educate and get them employed in the textile and apparel industry. “The idea is to create talent from within the locals over there in order to run the industry. I have trained around 6,000 people in the north-east before. They don’t have many opportunities at home, however, they will be provided with specific vocational training that will gradually take them into the industry,” said Vineet Lall, Director – Modelama Skills, at the recently held NERLP orientation programme in Gurgaon, India.
