
Make India-Textile Industry Strategies to Growth, an event that will be organized in Coimbatore on January 21, is aimed at making Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India’ vision a reality in the Indian textile industry.
During the course of the event, the participants will discuss ways and means to achieve the goal through a collaborative approach, seeking the Centre’s guidance in the process. The event will be presided over by Union Textile Minister Santoshkumar Gangwar as its Chief Guest. Indian Texpreneurs Federation will be organising the event.

In this regard, Indian Texpreneurs Federation Secretary Prabhu Dhamodharan, said, “Tamil Nadu contributes to one-third of the Indian textile industry, including 60 per cent to the total yarn exports, has a 47.5-per cent cotton spinning capacity and consumes 30 per cent of the country’s total cotton consumption.”
The 127-year-old Tamil Nadu textile industry is diversifying into new markets and focusing on innovation and manufacturing excellence. The ‘Make in India’ campaign, an initiative by the Government of India, aims to encourage multinational and domestic companies to manufacture their own products in India. It is speculated to create million of jobs and place India as the top destination globally for Foreign Direct Investment, surpassing China and USA.

There have been frequent debates among the industry bigwigs over improvisation of the Indian textile industry, in which the Textile Ministry had at one point of time suggested a few corrective measures to boost the ailing exports. The GoI has also passed several schemes for alleviating the situation; including amending the TUFS schemes that is expected to benefit the textile sector in a big way.
