Garmentech Bangladesh 2016, organized between January 13 and 16 at the country’s capital Dhaka, alongside the International Yarn and Fabrics Sourcing Fair and GAP Expo-2016, proved fruitful for Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) industry, as well as for the 300 exhibitors who came from across the world to be a part of the event.
The fair covered the latest technology used in each and every process of garmenting, particularly those utilised in jeans manufacturing and different kinds of yarns and accessories.
In view of issues like gas connection and sustainable perspective, technology providers have a palpable focus on green manufacturing setups — like power-saving cutters, power-saving motors for sewing machines, boilers that run on garbage etc. Wintex Resources exhibited cutters from F K Group that consume power as little as 5.9 KwH.
On the other hand, the sewing room can expect to see some disruptive technologies in the form of sewing machines that do not require feed from the operator’s foot. Instead, the needlepoint is guided by a sensor for detecting the fabric plies. Thereafter, the sewing is done based on the programmed stitch length and SPI, deskilling the operation and reducing the material handling. While China-based Typical unveiled an over-lock machine along these lines, another company Precious, Dhaka unveiled an SNLS based on the same concept.
Denim fabric manufacturers from China were the most sought-after by visitors at the fair, including top and middle level management and professionals from the garment industry. The Indian textile companies also came back happy from the fair, after meeting the large number of garment exporters.
Bangladeshi exporters are also gradually moving towards backward integration. As a result, we can expect to see a greater demand for yarn in Bangladesh in the coming years.
The fair organizers, Zakaria Trade & Fair International, ASK Trade & Exhibitions and Bangladesh Garment Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA), were quite happy with the response given by both the participants and visitors.
Garmentech, which celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, was held at a new venue, the International Convention City, Bashundhara.
Nanda Gopal K, Director, ASK Trade & Exhibitions told Apparel Resources, “We are very glad that the new venue proved fruitful and the quality of visitors has also improved. From decision makers to procurement teams, merchandisers and technical teams of many export houses visited the show. Exhibitors are also happy about the quality of visitors, as they got more time to spend with them and discuss products.”
