Finishing the garment has always been the second most crucial issue besides the actual sewing. High versatility, flexibility, productivity and quality are the critical considerations when it comes to the pressing and finishing of any garment. Style runs are becoming shorter, design and styling more varied and today’s fibres, fabrics, special dyes and finishes are becoming more specialized and often necessitate very tightly controlled pressing and finishing parameters to ensure a quality finish. Team StitchWorld explores features of some of the innovative finishing machines at the GTE-’09.
Ramsons Joins Hand with Amalind of Italy to Manufacture RAMA Perc Dry-cleaning Machine
Ramsons has set out on a joint venture with Amalind, Italy to manufacture India’s advanced Perc Dry-cleaning Machine, RAMA. What makes Rama unique is that its critical components like the programmable logical control, the loading door, refrigeration unit, distillation unit, pneumatic solenoid valves, pump and electric motor, imported from Italy, make it a high quality product. The 12 kg machine unveiled at GTE has been produced at the Bangalore facility of the Ramsons.

Going forward, the joint venture is looking to increase the capacity range to at least 30 kg, within a year. Currently, the manufacturing unit dedicated to RAMA is producing 10 machines a month. The parts supplied by India for this collaborative venture include the stainless steel body, the wash basket and the air tubes. As the machine is assembled in India, it costs 75% of its European counterpart.
Mohit Belani, Director of the company told StitchWorld, “It is creditable that RAMA, an Indian machine is being exported to Europe and doing extremely well over there. Each of our machines leaves the factory with a seal of approval by a special technician from Italy.” Like most Perc machines, this one too carries out washing, squeezing and drying. RAMA is especially good for knit garments as the wash is limited to the surface of the garment and therefore doesn’t let harmful chemicals penetrate it. A typical cycle lasts for about 45 minutes but the PLC can be programmed according to the wash care required by the garment.
Some standard features of the machine include a built-in refrigeration unit, compressor and two nylon filters. A large still unit allows for faster distillation and recovery of the solvent up to 99.8%. The dual heating option allows for drying both with steam and electrical heat. The machine is available in 12 stroke/14 kg and 16 stroke/18 kg versions.
Welco Machineries Bring in Automation Through Malkan Trouser Pleat Fixing and Double Leg Line Press

The Gurgaon-based machinery supplier Welco Machineries had put up Malkan Finishing Machines on their stall. UPP3E Trouser Pleat Fixing Machine is stable for fixing the pleat of trousers, it has got computer (PLC) control system and also frame vacuuming system, which makes it easier to press. The system has foot pedal controlled buck closing system. Special hydraulic shock absorber enables the fast working of machine. The operator can also set the steaming and vacuuming time as per his need and ease. It has foot pedal control buck system and also foot pedal controlled air blowing on lower buck. It can be adjusted with pneumatic pressure adjustment for different kinds of fabric.
It is equipped with security frame for operator to make it easy and safe to operate. There is optional trouser hanging system attached with this machine and also an iron just in case of giving a final finishing touch to the trouser. The machine comes as a vertical pressing system.
Another eye-catcher of the show was the Linear System Double Leg Line Press UPP19KI. This machine is useful in pressing both the legs of trouser simultaneously. It has 100 different programmes which can be run by a touch-screen computer control. The movement of the buck can be linear and vertical. The radio system for steaming and air blowing on upper and lower bucks gives better finishing to the ironing. Also an additional frame vacuuming is there on upper moulds. There is division in upper and lower bucks to avoid shinning. The machine does energy saving by using aluminum moulds with serpentine. The press can be adjusted rationally for different kind of fabrics. The laser pointers give accuracy in material placing thus a high ironing quality. The system is also equipped with the operator frame to let the operator function it safely and easily.
CeliKhan Putting up a Powerful Show with Automated Jeans Crinkling Machine

CeliKhan has always made a strong presence at the GTE by bringing in the latest in the finishing machines. This time the company came up with two of its machines especially for denim products. The company also put up a fashion show which showcased the jeans which were finished using their machines.
The company had put on display the Automatic Crinkling Machines for jeans. The machine has six metal bucks over which the jeans is slipped on. A moveable crinkling device with metal wires comes down on each of the bucks handling one at a time. In order to produce the crinkles, these wires come close to each other and fold the denim fabric along with them. The folds are made permanent by a steam treatment which is given through a moveable steam head fitted in the same machine. The 3D effect is generated as the material exposed to steam fades in comparison to the unexposed parts.
The company had also put up on display the Ozone (O3) Machines which are used to enhance colour brilliance, sheen, and clean the fibres and restore the original texture of the fabric. Ozone treatment destroys all air-borne micro-organisms including bacteria, virus, mould, fungi spores, etc. It also oxidizes the volatile organic chemicals including the aromatic chemicals. Hence, the garments feel softer and fresher after the treatment. Ozone also helps in increasing the colour brightness and depth of fabrics other than denim. The extra softness is permanent in nature and cannot be achieved by any other artificial process. “Besides, the ozone discharged purifies the atmosphere propagating clean, fresh and pollution free oxygen rich air,” says Abdullah Goek, General Manager, CeliKhan.
Hoffman Shirt Pressing System: Interchangeable Bucks for Multiple Sizes
Hoffman demonstrated its new Hoffman DBR-BVG for shirt pressing. The machine is a rotating double-buck body press. It presses front, side, back and sleeves on the body, with live steam and air blowing in sleeves. The unique SizeWise heated bucks accommodate the widest range available including men’s shirts and ladies blouses. It is the only shirt system available with interchangeable bucks to accommodate all body sizes and styles. Shirt holding vacuum and the heated air blowing systems are built into the machine, eliminating the need for any additional support machinery.
The special head design of the machine yield constant temperature across the entire head and also permits the air bags on the SizeWise bucks to expand fully to conform to the shirt which removes wrinkles before the pressing begins, resulting in a crease-free yoke, perfect sides and no pocket bowing. The machine only requires a standard 3-phase electric connection, a steam and an air connection.
