
The largest association in India striving toward growth of the textile industry, the Textile Association India (TAI), recently celebratedits Platinum Jubilee, which was attended by members from all over the country.The Association felicitatedM.K. Mehra, Director of OGTC and R.C. Kesar, Director General of OGTC for their long dedicated service for the growth of the Association. The Association also paid homage to other past presidents With pan-India presence, the TAI has been catering to the professional growth of various professionals in the textile industry like technologists, managers, traders, researchers, entrepreneurs, teachers and consultants by organizing workshops, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, etc. This journey of 75 years can be witnessed in the coffee table book, which was released by D.R. Mehta, President of the Textile Association while delivering his presidential address at the function.
The event saw M. K. Mehra, former National President from 1989-1993 and Chairman of Federation of Asian Professional Textile Associations from 2001- 2003, honoured with the RATNA award. Apart from the honour given by Textile Association, he is also recipient of the FAPTA Award, which took place in China in 2013, Life Time Meritorious Service Award at the World Conference in 2011 in Mumbai, Service Award at the 67th All India Textiles Conference in New Delhi in 2012, President Award during Golden Jubilee celebration in 1989 and TA Service Gold Medal in 1980.
Kesar, who has spearheaded the OGTC movement along with Mehra was also felicitated with the RATNA Award, he was a Textile Association National President from 2001- 2003 and Chairman of Federation of Asian Professional Textile Associations from 2003- 2005. He is also the recipient of association service Gold Medal at the 67th All India Textile Conference in New Delhi in 2012 and was the Chairman of conference organizing committee for the 7th Asian Textile Conference held in New Delhi in 2003.
While R.K. Dalmia, Former National President of the Association was the Chief Guest for the function, Dr. Chandan Chatterjee, Director, CED & GM iNDEXTb (a Govt. of Gujarat Organization) and R.D. Udeshi, President, Polyester Chain in Reliance Industries Ltd. also addressed the guest delegates.
Being the only Association in the world catering to the whole gamut of the Textile Industry, TAI was established in 1939 and today has a strong membership of around 23,000 within 26 affiliated units. With specific objectives such as promoting use of scientific knowledge in textiles from fibres to garments; implementing programmes relating to textile technology and management; helping members acquire textile qualification towards improved job performance; analyzing socio-economic environment for developing strategy recommendation, has helped TA to earn its reputation globally by successfully working together to tackle problems and find and implement solutions.
