The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) has strengthened India’s medical textiles ecosystem with the inauguration of a dedicated Medical Textiles Testing Laboratory at its campus in Visakhapatnam. The facility was inaugurated by Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh, during his visit to the medical technology hub.
The new laboratory is expected to support the growth of India’s healthcare and technical textiles sectors by providing advanced testing, validation and quality assurance services for a wide range of medical textile products. The facility is designed to help manufacturers comply with both domestic and international quality standards while fostering innovation and boosting indigenous production.
During the visit, officials highlighted the laboratory’s capabilities in evaluating products including surgical gowns, face masks, personal protective equipment (PPE), surgical drapes and wound-care materials. The facility is equipped to conduct comprehensive assessments covering barrier performance, microbial resistance, safety compliance and product reliability, ensuring that healthcare products meet stringent quality requirements before reaching the market.
The laboratory is expected to provide manufacturers across the country with access to specialised testing infrastructure, reducing dependence on overseas testing facilities and enabling faster product development and commercialisation.
Industry stakeholders believe the facility will play a significant role in enhancing the competitiveness of India’s medical textiles sector while supporting the country’s broader objective of strengthening domestic healthcare manufacturing capabilities.
