
The President of Bangladesh’s apex garment makers’ body (the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BGMEA), has sought the support of the World Bank (WB) for the development of the apparel sector of Bangladesh.
As per reports, the BGMEA chair sought the WB support especially in the areas of technological upgradation and innovations, sustainability and skills development.
Faruque Hassan reportedly sought the support from the WB during a recent visit by a high level WB delegation led by the Managing Director of Operations Axel van Trotsenburg in Dhaka.
Apart from Axel, the WB delegation reportedly included Martin Holtmann, Country Manager, IFC Bangladesh; Elena Karaban, Manager, External Communication; Barbara Weber, Senior Operation Officer, Country Director’s Office; Mehrin Mahbub, Senior External Affairs Officer; Martin Raiser, Vice-President, South Asia Region, Abdoulaye Seck, Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan; Dandan Chen, Operations Manager for Bangladesh and Bhutan; and Yutaka Yoshino, Lead Economist.
