USA has experienced a slight rise in its apparel imports of skirts during January to May 2018 period and the cumulative import data of the US shows a good indication for the country.
According to the data released by OTEXA and evaluated by Apparel Resources, USA witnessed a growth of 0.85 per cent by importing skirts worth US $ 375.53 million in the mentioned period.
China, a leading exporter to USA noted a surge in terms of volume as well as value for the said period. It exported 2.57 million dozen of skirts worth US $ 135.03 million to USA, experiencing a growth of 7.44 percent in volume and 6.04 per cent in value.
Vietnam, being the second largest exporter to USA after China, earned US $ 81.06 million from the skirts category. The country was up by 11.98 per cent from the corresponding period in 2017. It’s worth noting here that, among top 5 exporting destinations to USA, Vietnam was the only country which tapped double-digit growth in skirts category.
India grew by 1.80 per cent for the said period and exported skirts worth US $ 26.73 million to the USA, thus leading to have a positive impact on the apparel exporters from India at least in skirts category, if not in overall exports which is a little bit disappointing.
Notably, Bangladesh witnessed a downfall of 4.10 per cent in value of export, hence could earn US $ 20.19 million from skirt shipment to USA.
On the other hand, Indonesia plunged drastically both in values (30.66 per cent) as well as volume (22.26 per cent) of the skirts shipment to the USA for the review period. It shipped skirts worth US $ 28.67 million as against US $ 41.339 million in the same period of prior year. The primary reason behind the decline in the value could be the longer shipping time due to which USA is abstaining from sourcing from Indonesia.
