Even as Bangladesh garment industry is making a strong turnaround in terms of exports, it is basically the bigger players that are flooded with work orders from the global buyers, while smaller ones are yet to benefit much from the same.
Media reports maintained this adding as many 1,500 small non-Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) member factories and more than 1,000 BGMEA member units are not getting enough orders even if amidst the business slump, many smaller units are already closed and many others are planning to follow suit.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, reportedly, maintained, “…around 1,000 small member factories are in trouble as they are not getting adequate work orders,” while underlining the BGMEA is providing them technical support and also reducing the service charge (at the BGMEA) so that they can get some relief even if Research Director at the Centre for Policy Dialogue, Khondaker Golam Moazzem, on his part, reportedly, suggested consolidation of some small factories so that they can cater to bulk orders with a view to grow bigger.
