Turkey experienced a significant downturn in the export of leather apparel during July 2023, marking a noteworthy contrast to the two preceding months of growth.
During this period, the volume of overseas shipments for apparel made of leather or composition leather witnessed a substantial decrease, plummeting by 6 per cent to reach a total of 88,000 units.
Notably, the most remarkable surge in export rates occurred in May 2023, boasting a month-on-month increase of 49 per cent.
However, despite the peak of exports reaching 176,000 units in September 2022, the subsequent months from October 2022 to July 2023 saw a sustained decline in export figures, maintaining a lower threshold.
This trend suggested a nuanced pattern of fluctuations within the leather apparel export sector.
In terms of value, Turkey’s export of leather apparel contracted to an estimated US $ 12 million according to IndexBox estimates for July 2023.
Similarly, the most notable growth rate in value terms occurred in May 2023, showing a month-to-month increase of 59 per cent. Despite the peak in exports reaching 16 million units in September 2022, the subsequent months from October 2022 to July 2023 demonstrated a consistent maintenance of lower export figures, further emphasising the nuanced nature of the market’s performance.
