As USA declined in its apparel imports value in Sep. ’20 over Sep. ’19 by 15 per cent and saw just a miniscule growth of 1.64 per cent as compared to August ’20, Bangladesh couldn’t tap growth both on yearly and monthly basis.
Bangladesh clocked US $ 474.54 million from its apparel shipment to USA in September ’20 falling 2.20 per cent from September ’19 and 20.21 per cent from August ’20.
It’s worth noting here that the country’s shipment upped for the first time in August ’20 in the US market both on M-o-M and Y-o-Y basis, giving positive future export perspectives for the country’s manufacturers that time in a COVID-19 hit year.
However, the monthly fall in values over August ’20 seems to be a setback for the country’s export industry but what keeps the exporters positive is increased order quantities from a year earlier, if not on monthly basis.
As far as volume of order is concerned, Bangladesh noted 2.80 per cent growth in Sep. ’20 on Y-o-Y basis. However, the same was down by 15.70 per cent as compared to August ’20.
The monthly fall indicates that August was the month when Bangladeshi exporters shipped majority of the pending orders that were stuck due to COVID-19 lockdown and the country will have to put in extra efforts to grab more fresh orders in the coming months.
During YTD period (January-September ’20), Bangladesh clocked US $ 3.96 billion in its apparel export to USA, marking 13.23 per cent Y-o-Y fall.
