Bangladesh’s Chittagong Port will soon add the long-awaited new container terminal after the port authorities decided to start trial operation of a newly built Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) from Thursday, this week.
Reports claimed this adding the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has planned to berth a bulk carrier on a trial basis at one of its four jetties on Thursday even though some construction work, including of the yards, is yet to be fully completed.
With this, the Chittagong Port, which handles bulk of Bangladesh’s exports and imports including apparel shipments, will get the new terminal after almost more than 14 and half years since the construction of the last one, New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), which was completed in December 2007.
