
Issa Aremu, the General-Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria in llorin informed that textile and garments worth N 300 billion yearly are imported in Nigeria without any duties or taxes. He revealed that smuggled products absorb over 90 per cent of the market and cited that if effective steps will not be taken against this, then several gains would be lost and thus worsen the unemployment situation in the country. It is also being reported that the Federal Government has been brainstorming on a new textile policy from the past few months, but nothing significant has come out yet.
