Dhaka recently hosted three comprehensive international exhibitions for the Textile and Garment Industry at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. While the machinery section saw representation from China, Korea, Taiwan and India, the fabric/fibre and dyes show was dominated by players from China. The three shows saw around 180 exhibitors, 60 exhibitors in each category.
Today, garment manufacturers are going for massive expansions and technology upgradation for improved production. Since the industry is dependent on imports for many of its needs including technology, fabric/accessories and dyes trade fairs become significant.
The yarn, accessories and machinery section was the busiest section as majority of the companies had local representation. The visitation was mostly from the middle management, which handles production. It was heartening to note that companies are very keen to invest in the right technology and many of the discussions revolved around the selection of the right machines.
“Companies in Bangladesh are very upfront in investing in latest machines, they listen very carefully and evaluate the technology before taking a decision,” said A.R. Atique, Director, Mehala Machinery Bangladesh.
