Tamil Nadu’s textiles and Khadi Policy note 2023-24 has announced numerous benefits for the handlooms and textiles. There are almost 22 policy measures for the benefit of the textile industry.
The Minister of Handlooms and Textiles, R. Gandhi, presented this note in the House.
It includes creating a textile city closer to Chennai and the declaration for Tamil Nadu Pavilion in all the major international exhibitions that would boost the Tamil Nadu brand and create enormous market opportunities for strengthening domestic and international markets for the whole value chain in the State.
Various fund allocations have been made for convening the international technical textile conference, R & D facilities, workshops, skill development, etc. for technical textiles.
There is a thrust on the handlooms sector including training and development of young handloom entrepreneurs.
Ravi Sam, Chairman, SIMA welcomed the Government move and said that the medium to long-term vision of the Government reflected in the statements in the Policy Note is laudable and would go a long way in achieving the target of a US $ 1 trillion economy by 2030 envisaged by the state.
It is pertinent to mention here that Tamil Nadu’s textiles and apparel industry accounts for 1/3rd of the textile business of the country.
