Many Indian apparel exporters already have a strong presence in the domestic market and many more are foraying into it.
Tirupur-based garment company NC John & Sons, which was recently in limelight for producing 100 per cent recycled polyester for Australian Open tennis tournament, also has plans to enter the domestic market.
The company, an EOU, has been receiving good enquiries from various brands and companies including sportswear, and is also increasing its focus on sustainable initiatives.
Alexander Neroth, CEO, NC John & Sons, said “We are getting a good response for our tees at international level and also willing to sell the same in India too. For that, we plan to launch our own brand in the coming years.”

The company, having a capacity of manufacturing 1,00,000 pieces per month, offers a variety of garments like T-shirts, zipper-jackets, leggings, shorts and tennis dresses, etc.
For tees supplied to Australian Open, the yarn was imported from Taiwan, knitted and dyed in Surat, with garments finally getting stitched in Tirupur. “We were doing 100 per cent polyester garment for the first time, but we were confident that we will do it and we did it,” informed Satya, GM of the company to Team Apparel Resources. Satya is sure to achieve at least 30 per cent growth in the coming fiscal.
The company also does organic cotton blends and recycled cotton-based garments. It started apparels with 100 per cent recycled polyester a couple of years ago. “Right now, 90 per cent of what we do is sustainable. Soon, we hope to reach the 100 per cent mark,” he added.
