
Pakistan Textile Exporters Association, PTEA, has urged the Government of Pakistan to extend the duty drawback of taxes incentive for another 3 years.
While substantiating further on this, Mian Shaiq Javed, PTEA Chairman, said that increasing the incentive period would help enhance the value-added export of textiles as well as boost the economy of the country.
He further added that the incentive has helped the textile exports of Pakistan witness a growth of 7.7% y-o-y by touching an impressive US $ 9.99 billion from July to March in 2017-2018.
It is worth noting that there was a surge of 13.1% on Pakistan’s exports during July to March 2017-2018 period compared to the first nine months of 2016-2017.
The export figures of the ready-made apparels increased to 12.56% in value during July-March 2017-2018 while the jump seen in volume was 12.85%.
The knitwear, during the same period, saw a jump of 14.12% (value) and 3.52% (volume).
Bed wear too saw an increase of 4.99% in value, while it increased by 3.16% in volume.
The Chairman said that if the incentive tenure was extended to 3 more years, there will be 10% yearly increase in exports of value-added textiles, with each year adding US $ 1.5 billion.
