
Underlining garment exporters in Bangladesh were making arrangements to send some Russia-bound containers through alternate routes, reports maintained Russian buyers had stopped placing orders after Russia-Ukraine conflict started.
The reports citing the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, maintained a total of 169 TEUs of containers loaded with apparel items have been waiting at the off-docks to be shipped to Russia, which have been stacked up at the ICDs just after the war started.
Meanwhile, industry people have, reportedly, said the market in Russia for apparel was not very big for the Bangladesh apparel exporters compared to Europe and America even if Bangladesh has, reportedly, shipped apparels worth US $ 481.23 million to Russia in the first eight months of the current fiscal 2021-22, while in January and February of the current fiscal, Bangladesh’s apparel export to Russia stood at US $140.03 million.
