With six apparel manufacturing facilities in Sri Lanka, Omega Line owned by the Italian apparel giant Calzedonia Group, has successfully established its 7th factory in the North-west region of Sri Lanka, Vavuniya Apparel with an investment of US $ 20 million. The facility will manufacture knitwear and generate employment for 3,000 people directly or indirectly.
Inaugurated by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa himself, the factory marks the revival of economic and social development in the LTTE stricken region of Sri Lanka. Taking the cue from the same, Sandro Veronesi, President of Calzedonia Group said, “We decided to establish a factory in the North following an invitation from the Sri Lankan Government, as we were confident that this will support the growth of the former conflict affected region while heralding new economic vistas, especially for the youths.”
A market leader in underwear, beachwear and hosiery products, with more than 3,300 stores in more than 30 countries, the six facilities of the Calzedonia Group generated total revenue of US $ 350 million. Founded in 1986 by Sandro Veronesi, the Calzedonia group is made of four brands namely – Calzedonia, Intimissimi, Tezenis and Falconeri.
