A member of parliament has stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s initiatives have increased the nation’s electricity generation and decreased blackouts, enabling the economy to avoid US $ 176 billion in lost economic output since 2009.
“Vested quarters have been running propaganda against the power and energy sector. Economists opine that load-shedding for 12-14 hours causes a 4 per cent loss of GDP. Due to prudent initiatives of PM Sheikh Hasina, the country saved US $ 176 billion from 2009 to 2024,” Dr Salim Mahmud, member of parliament from Chandpur-1, told the House on Tuesday night.
The congressman stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina discovered that, to expand GDP by 1 per cent, a low-income nation like Bangladesh must increase fuel use by 2 per cent. She subsequently completed this virtually difficult feat.
He continued, saying that the Prime Minister had prevented the economy from suffering severe losses due to the load-shedding curse.
