
The Mongla seaport witnessed growth in the first ten months of the current fiscal year, which began in July 2023, compared to the same period the previous year in nearly every category, including ship arrivals, container handling, and revenue profits.
Around 726 vessels docked at the port between July 2023 and April 2024, an increase of 18 over the same period the previous year. Eight container ships docked at the Mongla port in April 2024, setting a new monthly record for the port.
Container handling increased by more than 20 per cent during that time, with 2,189 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) handled in the first ten months of the current fiscal year 2024. Between July 2023 and April 2024, cargo handling increased by 1.7 lakh metric tonnes to 6.37 lakh metric tonnes, in line with the development in container handling activities.
The port’s revenue earnings also surged by nearly 20 per cent till April of fiscal year 2024 from the same period of the previous year, reaching Taka 24.14 crore.
