Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, has said that the Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Parks (MITRA) scheme will create lakhs of new employment opportunities.
Addressing the joint sitting of two Houses of the Parliament, the President in his address highlighted that the MITRA Parks and various initiatives taken by the Central Government will boost the integrated textile value chain.
In his speech, the President said, “Along with developing new areas, Government is restoring our traditional strength in domains in which we possess centuries of experience. In this direction, Government has approved seven Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Parks with an investment of about Rs. 4,500 crore. This will facilitate integrated textile value chain. These mega textile parks will attract both Indian and foreign investors, and create lakhs of new employment opportunities.”
Referring to the 14 key Production Linked incentive (PLI) schemes, the President said these PLI schemes will not only help transform India as a global manufacturing hub but also create over 60 lakh jobs.
Speaking of the record breaking growth in India’s exports, the President said that during April to December 2021, our overall goods’ exports stood at US $300 billion dollars or more than Rs. 22 lakh crore, which is one and a half times more than the corresponding period of 2020.
Terming infrastructure as the foundation for development in any country, President said that the Government viewed infrastructure as a bridge to address social inequality. He added that investment in infrastructure not only generates lakhs of new jobs, but also has a qualitative impact, enhancing ease of doing business, facilitating faster transport and promoting economic activities across sectors.
