Miran Ali, Managing Director of Bitopi Group and former Vice President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has been named the new Global Council Representative at the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI). This strategic appointment underscores Bangladesh’s growing influence in global efforts to promote sustainability and efficiency within the apparel industry.
The ATTI initiative, a collaborative effort led by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), was introduced during a panel discussion held in London as part of Climate Action Week. Its core mission is to drive significant ecological improvements across international supply chains by empowering manufacturers to lead sustainable change.
In his new role, Miran Ali will serve as a key liaison between the IAF, international brands, and Bangladeshi trade associations, aiming to streamline and unify diverse environmental strategies. Addressing the complexities faced by local manufacturers, Ali emphasized the need to consolidate multiple, often conflicting, sustainability and renewable energy targets set by various buyers.
“Every buyer now asks for confusing and difficult-to-achieve renewable energy and sustainability targets. For a factory working with 10 or 12 buyers, it’s impractical to meet so many varying environmental strategies,” Ali said. He highlighted that ATTI’s efforts will help reduce audit fatigue by creating a cohesive framework for environmental compliance, facilitating more practical and unified sustainability initiatives within factories.
Ali’s appointment reflects Bangladesh’s commitment to leading the global textile and apparel sector towards a more sustainable future, fostering solutions that are workable for manufacturers while meeting international environmental standards.
