To ensure that Bangladesh’s export sector remains competitive amid the ongoing global economic turmoil, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka, has called upon the Government to continue offering gas and electricity subsidies.
As per reports, the President of MCCI Md Saiful Islam underlined this while participating at a view exchange meeting with media at the MCCI headquarters in Dhaka even as he reportedly added energy prices increased globally due to international reasons and increased production costs on account of the same has now eroded the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s manufacturing sector.
“I will thus request the Government to continue offering subsidies for electricity and gas in any form for 2023,” maintained the MCCI President while adding this will help Bangladesh remain competitive on the global market amid the Russia-Ukraine war and its fallouts.
The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), founded in 1904, is the country’s oldest and pre-eminent trade organization of Bangladesh.
