
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to make khadi a global brand as it would help rural artisans to increase their income. The Government is putting in efforts to make it a global product identity of India. This was stated by an official close to the development to a business newspaper of the country.

The Indian Government has sought help from the United Nations in promoting Khadi. It is also mulling to market Khadi globally and brand it as “Cloth of Indiaβ. Last year, Khadi & Village Industries Commission signed deals with Raymond and Peter England to hawk garments made out of khadi in international markets.
βWe are open to give Khadi mark certification to all seeking it, subject to fulfilment of certain terms and conditions,β said VK Saxena, Chairman, KVIC.
