Sustainability Compact on Readymade Garment and Knitwear Industry in Bangladesh, rolled out in 2013 after the Rana Plaza building collapse, held its third meeting last week. A joint conclusion has been issued by the Compact members: Bangladesh Government, the European Union, the US, Canada and International Labour Organization (ILO).
The ‘Joint Conclusion’ issued by the partners would be served as “a set of commitments and priorities” for ensuing respect for labour rights, occupational safety and health and the promotion of responsible business conduct in the ready-made garment industry of Bangladesh.
The Conclusion also encourages private initiatives to remain engaged with the Government and renew their commitments to working for safer RMG factories in the coming years. They will continue to review and assess progress together in the coming years.
