Indian denim fabric export is on rise during 2021 buoyed by increasing worldwide demand for denim garments.
Resonating the same, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s data which was further analysed by Apparel Resources revealed the denim fabric exports clocked US $ 190.78 million during Jan.-Oct. ’21 period, noting 88.45 per cent Y-o-Y increase.
Top market for Indian denim was Bangladesh that imported US $ 58.30 million worth of denim fabrics, growing 40.21 per cent in Jan.-Oct. ’21 period.
The next three destinations are Colombia, Venezuela and Egypt where Indian denim exporters shipped fabrics worth US $ 32.71 million, US $ 13.32 million and US $ 12.92 million, respectively – noting whopping growth of 176.24 per cent, 506 per cent and 25.20 per cent, respectively.
Markedly, the exports of denim fabrics in Jan.-Oct. ’21 have surpassed the values clocked in pre-pandemic period (Jan.-Oct. ‘2019) when it valued just US $ 168.70 million.
Though the values tapped this year are more than export revenues earned in 2019, the shipment of denim fabrics in the key markets hasn’t gotten back on track; instead India has strengthened position in non-traditional markets (such as South Africa, Guatemala) where it had previously been shipping smaller (negligible) volumes of denim fabrics.
Bangladesh’s import values are still not revived and fell by 10.30 per cent as compared to Jan.-Oct. ’19…Colombia and Venezuela have witnessed rise, while both Sri Lanka and Egypt have dropped in their imports from India if compared with 2019.
