
Imports through Bangladesh’s largest land port, Benapole Land Port — located in Benapole town of Sharsha Upazila (sub district) in the Jessore district, Benapole Land Port is the largest land port of Bangladesh and is used to export-import goods with India through Benapole-Petrapole border — decreased by 4.3 lakh tonnes in financial year 2021-22 compared to tonnage imported in 2020-21.
Reports claimed this adding according to entrepreneurs involved in import and export through Benapole, this was primarily because of a lack of required infrastructural development.
Reports further added in 2021-22, around 21.14 lakh tonnes of goods came in through the port, which was 26.44 lakh tonnes in 2020-21 while adding the decrease in imports in FY ’22 resulted in decreased revenue collection by almost Taka 559 crore, as Taka 4,599 crore was collected as revenue against the target of Taka 5,158 crore.
