
International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), an association of Governments of cotton producing, consuming and trading countries, has predicted growth in cotton export from India in the current year.
According to ICAC, cotton export from India is expected to grow 3 per cent to 990,000 tonnes in the current year, with production likely to rise by 2 per cent to 5.9 million tonnes while world cotton trade may reach 8 million tonnes in 2017-18. Also, world cotton trade is expected to note an increase of 3 per cent to 8 million tonnes in 2017-18.
China is also expected to notice growth in import volume to reach 1.1 million tonnes for the year. ICAC cites the growth in China’s imports to its surging mill use, which continues to outpace its production.

However, the US will continue to remain the world’s largest cotton exporter with its volumes rising by 5 per cent to 2.9 million tonnes, while Bangladesh’s import has been projected to grow by 3 per cent to 1.5 million tonnes in 2017-18.
In its first estimate of the 2017-18 crop season, the ICAC predicts that world cotton output will rise by 2 per cent to 23.4 million tonnes.
