
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University based in Hisar has developed two new varieties of cotton: H1316 and H1353. These are American cotton varieties which are high yielding as well as resistant against sucking pests and have better ginning outturn. These varieties are identified for release in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat states of the Central India as they are suitable for cultivation under irrigated and rainfed conditions, respectively. The potential yield of these varieties was 2,926 kg/hectare and 2,825 kg/hectare, respectively. This is the first time cotton varieties developed in one zone have been released in other zone of the country for cultivation since usually cotton varieties are released in the zone in which these have been developed.
