France-based Groupe Auchan has decided to donate US $ 1.5 million to the Rana Plaza Donor’s Trust Fund set up under the auspices of the ILO. However, the supermarket giant continues to claim that it has never placed an order with any manufacturers in the collapsed building, even though a pair of children’s trousers of their brand was found at the site, 20 days after the tragedy. The company has also signed the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh and putting in place an eight-point plan to curb the problem of unauthorized sub-contracting and corruption of apparel and clothing production since the tragedy, just to make sure that any such disaster never gets repeated.
