GMS Composite Knitting Ind. Ltd., an entirely integrated unit, is contemplating to increase its garment production. Founded in the year 2000 by Md. Golam Mostafa, the Managing Director, who was in jute exports earlier, the company has 100 sewing lines with an average of 90 machines per line and its per day capacity is 60,000 pieces of T-shirts and 40,000 pieces of polo and sweat shirts.
Comprising of state-of-the-art composite knitting, dyeing, finishing and stitching units under one roof, GMS is catering to 100% European buyers such as Jack and Jones, Vero Moda, Fruit of the Loom, Kappa, Jennifer, Spalding, to mention a few with its knitted garments like T-shirts, polo shirts, shorts, innerwear, jogging suit. GMS’s existing turnover is US $ 150 million and looking to touch US $ 180 million by next FY. Presently, the company has 172 circular knitting machines producing 45 tonnes of fabric per day and a dyeing capacity is about 60 tonnes per day, which includes 7 tonnes per day capacity of yarn dyeing.
“Two of our important buyers, H&M and C&A are insisting on giving them more production lines, which is why it has become important for us to add more sewing machines and it would not be a problem as we have a lot of space in our existing unit,” shares M. Mahbubul Alam, GM Commercial, who also shared about the company’s foray into backward linkage – manufacturing cartons, labels and other accessories. Before the company goes for sewing capacity expansions, the dyeing and knitting capacities would be increased to have the fabric in place for sewing.
