Due to Durga Puja, all export and import activities between Bangladesh and India through the Benapole land port would be halted for a period of five days, which has started from Friday (20th October).
Kartik Chakraborty, general secretary of the C&F Agents Staff Welfare Association at Petrapole port in India, was quoted by Shamsur Rahman, president of the Benapole C&F Agents Association, as saying, “All imports and exports through Petrapole port will remain closed until 24th October during the puja holidays.”
On 25th October, he continued, the business operations will pick back up.
The flow of passengers with India is regular, according to Kamruzzaman Biswas, officer-in-charge of the Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police, despite the fact that the passage of cargo through the Benapole-Petrapole port has been halted.
Since Friday morning, more than 4,700 people have passed through, said the port authority.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Benapole Customs House Athela Chowdhury underlined notwithstanding the halt to commercial activities, importers will be able to unload all types of goods from the port during the holidays
