The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), which is the apex trade organisation of Bangladesh playing a pivotal role in consultative and advisory capacity, safeguarding the interest of the private sector in the country, has called upon the Government to start talks on a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States, which is a major export destination for Bangladesh, including apparel items, keeping in perspective the upcoming LDC graduation.
The FBCCI has, reportedly, maintained this with the aim to restore the generalised system of preferences (GSP) privileges there.
Reports further added FBCCI has also maintained Bangladesh also needs to initiate discussions on bilateral FTAswith the United Kingdom and Canada as well while adding that since the rest of the export destination countries are members of one or another regional trade bloc,FTAs with them can be discussed with the respective trade blocs rather than going for bilateral talks.
