
During the first half of the current fiscal year, Bangladesh’s primary seaport witnessed a notable double-digit surge in both volume and value of merchandise exports, with an exception for the United States and the European Union.
Data from the Chittagong Custom House (CCH) revealed a remarkable 21.75 per cent increase in export volume and a 16 per cent rise in customs-assessed value.
While exports to the European Union and the United States exhibited positive growth, the rates were comparatively slower, standing at 8.73 per cent and 8.35 per cent, respectively.
Throughout the July-December period of FY ’24, Bangladeshi exporters dispatched 0.78 million tonnes of goods to the EU and 0.26 million tonnes to the US, reflecting increases compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
As anticipated, the garment industry maintained its position at the forefront of export dynamics, witnessing a robust 15.43 per cent increase in apparel shipments and a concurrent 16 per cent rise in assessed value.
