
After Bangladesh Government raised fuel prices by up to 51.7 per cent, the second hike in nine months, with adverse consequences to the businesses operating in the country, the entrepreneurs have urged the Government to cut rates of petroleum products as they felt the unprecedented spike was hurting businesses and will hamper job creation and hit the whole economy.
According to media reports, they made this appeal to the Government at a recent event organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) in capital Dhaka.
At a time when the fuel price was falling in global market, such a huge price hike has stunned the apparel makers, reportedly, claimed the Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Mohammad Hatem even as he, reportedly, added that in many ways, diesel is an essential commodity, and so its price rise was proving costly for the whole economy.
He has called upon the Government to adjust fuel prices every three months in line with international prices.
