There are at least 10 states in India that have great concern with textile or apparel industry and most of them have their own textile policy or are working on to create a new one with lot of subsidies. But now subsidy clause in the policy from a particular state will be in context to the other, Harmander Singh, Principal Secretary, Handlooms & Textiles, Tamil Nadu Government, said, “Don’t look at subsidies alone. There are other parameters you should consider before you invest outside Tamil Nadu. Here we have a track record of fostering textile businesses. Textile business does not thrive in isolation and instead needs the entire ecosystem. We have the ecosystem in place and we are here to hear you and help you.” The Minister was targeting neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and others who were targeting its textile businesses by offering tax incentives and subsidies. Few entrepreneurs who are waiting to get subsidies from a long time echoed the same.
