
In a meeting at Pallipalayam, Tamil Nadu, The Tamil Nadu Visaithari Thozhilalar Sammelanam has requested to State Government to set up textile parks in all the districts of the state. These parks will augment the sale of textiles manufactured by powerloom societies and improve the financial position of the societies and power loom weavers.
K. Mohan, member of the Sammelanam, presided over the meeting and urged the Centre to suspend the import of cotton and yarn with immediate effect. It was said in the meeting that powerloom industry is go through a crisis because of the rise in the production cost and drop in the exports. Another demand which was highlighted in the meeting was to fix a minimum wages of Rs. 15,000 a month for the power loom workers.
