
A delegation from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), headed by President Faruque Hassan, engaged in fruitful discussions on bilateral trade with Kamal Muslim, the Minister of Trade and Industry for the Kurdistan Regional Government recently.
During this meeting, there was an exchange of insights and possibilities for trade and investment between the two nations.
The Kurdistan Regional Government was well-represented by officials including Sarwar Kamal Hawari, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry; Fathi M Ali Almudaris, Economic Relations Advisor; and Ahmed Jalal, President of the Kurdistan-Bangladesh Business Council, all of whom participated in the discussions.
The BGMEA delegation was further accompanied by Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Iraq, Fazlul Bari, along with notable members of the business community: Sharmeen Hassan Tithi, Director of Giant Group; Mohammed Shohel, Managing Director of Bangla Poshak Ltd; Mohd Shawket Hossain, Director of Bangla Poshak Ltd; and Nisher Khan, Managing Director of Banika Fashion Ltd.
During the meeting, President Faruque Hassan highlighted the burgeoning manufacturing sectors in Bangladesh and the potential products, including readymade garments, that Kurdistan could import from Bangladesh.
He also emphasised the promising industrial opportunities in Bangladesh that Iraqi companies could explore for investment.
In return, Minister Kamal Muslim provided an overview of the investment opportunities available for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in Kurdistan. He assured the delegation of the government’s unwavering support and cooperation in facilitating trade and investment between the two regions.
This meeting symbolises the growing interest and potential for mutually beneficial economic collaboration between Bangladesh and Iraq’s Kurdistan Region.
