
The largest customs station in the country, the Chattogram Customs House, brought in Taka 62,025 crore during the first 11 months of the 2023–24 fiscal year.
Compared to the revenue generated during the same period in the previous fiscal year, which was Taka 55,099.01 crore, this marks a considerable rise of 12.57 per cent.
The Chattogram Customs House’s joint commissioner for public relations, Naziur Rahman, said TBS that the company brought in Taka 61,632.22 crore in FY ‘2022-23.
Chattogram Customs House has exceeded last year’s revenue collection in the first eleven months of the current fiscal year. They predict that revenue collection will surpass Taka 68,000 crore by the conclusion of this fiscal year.
However, despite exceeding the revenue collected in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year, the customs house still faces a shortfall in achieving its target for the period.
The goal for the first eleven months of this year was Taka 70,573 crore. This corresponds to a 12.11 per cent accomplishment rate that is Taka 15,591 crore less than the target.
May had the largest revenue collection of these 11 months. Revenue collection in May totaled Taka 6,502.5 crore, which exceeded the Taka 4,865 crore target revenue by 33.66 per cent.
The amount of revenue collected in May 2022–2023 was Taka 6,308.91 crore. The May collection for FY ’24 shows a 3.07 per cent rise over FY ’23.
The customs sources state that Taka 77,616 crore is the targeted revenue collection for FY ’24.
Over 90 per cent of imports and exports are completed through the country’s main seaport, where Chattogram Customs House collects duty on imported goods. Additionally, Chattogram Customs House also collects duty on goods arriving from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
