The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has engaged LightCastle Partners to conduct an exhaustive feasibility study as a preliminary step towards creating a specialised virtual platform for Bangladesh’s thriving textile and apparel sector.
This initiative comes in the wake of the country’s RMG sector securing its position as the world’s second-largest apparel exporter.
Despite this significant achievement, the industry confronts challenges arising from global geopolitical tensions, currency fluctuations, a dollar crisis, and escalating cotton prices, intensified by fierce competition from low-cost nations.
Recognising the potential of digital transformation, the BGMEA underscores the hindrances posed by regulatory constraints, particularly in cross-border transactions and foreign currency policies, inhibiting the domestic apparel industry’s access to the expanding global e-commerce market.
The official unveiling of the study’s findings took place at the BGMEA headquarters in Dhaka recently.
The report meticulously analyses market potential and sector preparedness for digitising Bangladesh’s apparel industry. It also outlines sustainable business models, identifies policy gaps, and proposes essential strategies for successfully implementing the envisioned marketplace.
