Despite ongoing challenges affecting industries in Bangladesh, particularly the textile and apparel sector due to issues related to gas and power, State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, affirms a commitment to expedite domestic oil and gas exploration activities from various internal sources.
“Within three years, natural gas from Bhola will be transported to the mainland through pipelines,” stated Hamid during his visit to the Shahbazpur Gas Field in Borhanuddin upazila, Bhola.
Emphasising Bhola’s potential as a natural gas-rich island, he announced plans for the excavation of nine additional exploration wells on the island and the upcoming implementation of a two-dimensional seismic survey in the Bholar river area.
Simultaneously, Petrobangla has initiated the drilling and re-drilling of 46 wells, contributing 612 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid, as informed by Nasrul Hamid.
He highlighted the success of adding 112 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid in 2023 and affirmed the continued progress of the programme.
