
Bangladesh’s apex garment makers’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has requested the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Vikram K. Doraiswami, to expedite and facilitate trade through the land ports, including Benapole, so as to reduce time and cost while also calling for easing travel procedures including visa, especially for the business people from Bangladesh.
Media reports maintained this adding BGMEA President made these requests to Vikram K. Doraiswami, when he called upon the BGMEA leaders at the trade body’s Dhaka office recently.
During the visit, the Indian High Commissioner, reportedly, discussed with BGMEA leaders about the existing problems in export-import especially in apparel and textile industry and possible ways to address them while also deliberating on the potential areas of further collaboration between the two countries to reap mutual trade benefits even as BGMEA President on his part, reportedly, underlined that while Bangladesh relies on India for raw materials including cotton, yarn, fabric, chemicals, machinery and dyes, India is also a potential garment export market for Bangladesh while adding that Indian domestic market is growing and Bangladesh can tap this opportunity.
