
Faruque Hassan, the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently met with the Director General of the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX) — officially created in 1996, EURATEX’s member federations, reportedly, represent around 160,000 companies, employing 1.5 million workers with a turnover of €162 billion, in the European Union — Dirk Vantyghem in Antwerp, Belgium.
According to reports during the meeting with Dirk Vantyghem, the BGMEA President, who was accompanied by BGMEA Director Abdullah Hil Rakib, BGMEA Vice-President Miran Ali and Managing Director of Shasha Denims Shams Mahmud, discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, pertaining to apparel and textile sector, its opportunities even as the BGMEA leaders shared the success stories of the Bangladesh apparel sector, how it managed to become a prestigious brand in the global market, its world-class workplace safety standards, significant endeavours and achievements made in the realm of environmental sustainability, etc.
It may be mentioned here Bangladesh today boasts of the highest number of Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED)-certified green garment manufacturing units in the world.
